I really don’t have much of an aversion to meat, but I just saw this photo on the Make: blog that made me cringe.
Those meat shavings are just friggin nasty. Eew, eew, eew.

… has pretty much gone to crap.
I think the low point was riding my bike back to work this evening when it started raining. Hard. And then the hail came. And of course it was sunny out when I left, so I wore only a nylon jacket and jeans.
I know San Francisco’s an inclement place, but hail?!
I suppose last weekend was just so good, this week’s pale in comparison.
On a completely different note, I got an idea for a site a few days ago and set something up quickly. It’s called hackcessory and lives at http://hackcessory.com There’s not much there yet, but I was hoping to have a place to share and review neat hackerish tools, computers, and stuff. Be sure to send along suggestions of things to check out.
I just noticed that Google added some building detail, BART stations, and Muni Metro stations to their vector maps tiles. Right now, it only seems like it’s in parts of downtown, all the way up to North Beach east of Gough Street, Soma, The Mission, and parts of Potrero Hill.
It’s neat to see that it includes my flat and even our cottage out back.
The IBM M-series keyboards are super special. They’ve got a great feel and a satisfying sound.
It’s also rumored that it’s pretty much the only keyboard with which you can beat someone to death and walk away coding.
Time Out The Window - Rainy Wednesday Night

Wednesday night + Audacity == mix.
Following up on my previous post on looking for a tiny computer, I think I’ve finally found something that just about fits the bill.

The HP Jornada 680 is pretty good at doing just what I was looking for. It has wireless through a PCMCIA orinoco card, and RS232 through a funky port out the back. It runs jlime linux, which made it really easy to get up and running without having to compile anything. Since it’s got a somewhat funky SH-3 processor getting a toolchain working was a little tricky, but totally worth it.
The only qualms I’ve got are that the serial connector is really obscure (proprietary even?), it doesn’t have cardbus support, the keyboard is a little tiny, and the “black” case is more of a dark purple.
Pros: everything is solid state (awesome battery life), it’s got a standard 5.0 mm OD x 2.1 mm ID barrel connector at 12v for power, so it interconnects with all my existing ham radio power setups, and it’s compact enough to fit into an inside jacket pocket.
So far, I’ve been pretty happy with it even though finding it after market was a little tricky.
I had a great time this past weekend at SuperHappyDevHouse in Los Gatos.
Much hacking about on random crap and plenty of Wii games. I even ran into a cute Debian developer who totally showed me up in boxing. Fun times.
