Hopefully you’ll be able to follow along tonight for Halloween in the Castro.

I’m going to try and put a webcam in my Lego head this year and keep a laptop tethered to my phone to upload images in realtime. It seems to work at the moment, but I still haven’t tested it with my phone or made a mounting hole in the head.
Once everything is set, it’ll upload images to http://thejof.com/halloweencam2006

Build photos at:  http://flickr.com/photos/thejof/sets/72157594354884204/

Update: Everything seems to work, so I’ll be testing out 1 min. intervals on my way out to Shannon’s

Update #2: Pictures are a little blurry, but it totally works!

Coroplast… Finally

main27 Oct 2006 01:48 am

Lately, I’ve been paying attention to these little grates on the sidewalks and noticing a lot more of these with cute black and white cow heads on them. They’re everywhere it seems…

I’m quite curious to know what’s behind them, but right now I’m settling for a wiki page to try and document where all of them are.

Hello Kitty!

This really sweet and friendly cat shows up on our stoop sometimes at night. She’s got a collar with no tags, which leaves me to wonder if she’s just out or homeless. Either way, I make sure to have some petting and give her something to eat when she stops by.

I’m in a fairly weighty rush to find a honkin’ piece of Coroplast board. Coroplast is that cool corrugated plastic material that looks much like a thick piece of fluted cardboard made out of polypropylene-like plastic. The thickness isn’t so important (1/4″, 1/2″, I’ll take anything at the moment) as is the plane area. Optimally, I’d like to find something about 4-foot square, but again, I’ll settle for pretty much anything at the moment.
Broken-down, or decrepit campaign signs of the larger variety would be perfect.

In the same vein, I’m looking for someone that might have access to a big printing device. A flatbed would make the most sense… big but low-res.

This is all for an essential component of a super-geeky and semi-secret Halloween costume for this year.
Drinks and free adverts for anyone that can help me pull this together.

Orace OpenWorld is at Moscone this week.

ESSID: vpn
64-bit WEP and way more than enough traffic ;)

A word to the wise: don’t store soy milk sideways in the fridge… just move some stuff on the taller shelf. In fact, just move the shorter shelf down a bit, because once you get vanilla soy milk in your water filter/pitcher, it’s rather difficult to not get this filthy slurry of vanilla and water.

Had quite the busy night tonight…
Somewhere in the wee-hours of the morning, in a Red Bull induced fit of system administration, I got fwknop working on one of my main boxes. I must say… it’s quite a nifty little tool.
Essentially, I send only one encrypted packet utilizing an asymmetrical cipher to my machine instructing it to do different stuff like run commands or change some netfilter policies. It’s way faster than port knocking, and it can do much more right out of the tarball.
In all, pretty useful for the tin foil hatters among us.

For friends and acquaintances of mine following along, I don’t really have anything going on this weekend. So, for those of you who would like to meet up for dinner or drinks sometime, let’s make it happen.

Soy milk and Cheerios… a good day gone great.

Ghetto Projector

It totally works, although it’s not very bright. Pretty cool though.

I watched War Games tonight. What a classic.
